Aetherboard is an application on your machine. Boards are folders. Images are files. You can open them in Finder, back them up the way you back up anything else, and read the source if you want to know what it is doing with them.

What it is like to use

One canvas that does not end. Drop images onto it, write on it, push things around until the arrangement means something. No pages, no artboards, no document you have to name before you are allowed to think.

It opens instantly because there is nothing to load. It works on a plane, in a field, and on hotel wifi that cannot fetch anything.

What you get

The Mac and Windows applications, offline, yours permanently — not a subscription that lapses. Lifetime updates are included. The board files are in a format you can read without the app. And the source is included, so nothing about it is a black box.

Does it work offline?

Yes. It is an application on your machine, not a website. Nothing needs to be fetched for it to open, and nothing is sent anywhere for it to work.

Where are my boards stored?

In folders on your own computer. A board is a folder and the images inside it are ordinary files, so you can open them, move them and back them up without the app.

Which computers does it run on?

The owned application runs on Mac and Windows and works offline. The trial runs in a desktop browser; phone and tablet layouts are not promised.
